Thursday Tip // Matching Waistband at CF
Thursday Tip // Match up your Seams
This is a sweet little tip for all you pants/jeans/fly front makers out there. If your pants pattern has a waistband, this 2-second check will save you a bunch of hassle down the line if your seam allowance wasn’t quite even.
After sewing on one side of your waistband, take a second to do up your zipper and check that the corners are square and even at the top of the pant. This matching or not is determined by how consistent your seam allowance was during the beginning and end of that seam. If you move from 5/8” to 1/2” by accident, you’ll see that difference clearly reflected when you check. Still a super easy fix at this point. Just mark your seam allowance and sew a new line of stitching so they match. Double check one more time and you’re good to move on!
If you’ve wavered but forget to check, often you don’t see this problem until you zip up the pants at the end of the project, which can be a bit disheartening to think of ripping out the entire waistband so they’re the same size at center front.
