Thursday Tip // Lengthen the grainline⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Team Trace over here reminding you to always lengthen the grainline! More often than not, a pattern will have the grainline marked but the marking itself may only be a short line in the middle of the pattern piece so as not to interfere with the various sizes of the pattern. Whether you are tracing first or just cutting, lengthen the grainline first. There are several reasons why this is helpful, the most obvious being it will help you cut your fabric more accurately on grain; ensuring the top AND bottom of your pant leg is on grain so you don’t get that dreaded leg twist in those jeans you worked so hard on. Also, if you intend to make adjustments by lengthening or shortening your pattern piece it will also help you realign the pattern pieces after you cut them apart and make your adjustments. If you are also #teamtrace you know how frustrating it is if something shifts while tracing. Trace and lengthen the grainline first and you will have a much easier time lining everything up again.
