Thursday Tip // Attaching cuffs, collars, and bands⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Cuffs, collars, and bands, oh my! (I couldn’t resist). If you have ever encountered knit bands of the cuff or collar variety you have probably experienced that little twinge of fear (or maybe excitement?) as you sit down at your machine, your cuff pinned to the nines, hoping against all hope that it turns out the first time so you don’t have to rip it out and try again. A little bit of sweat, some tears and maybe some choice words, am I right?! I think you know we are not here to judge your seams by any means - done is definitely better than perfect - but if you are looking to get one more trick up your sleeve then keep reading!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

When attaching a knit cuff, turn your sleeve wrong side out and place your prepared cuff inside the sleeve with the right sides touching. Pin following the pattern instructions, usually cuff seam lined up with sleeve seam. Then, place the whole thing under the presser foot so the wrong side of the sleeve is touching the feed dogs and the right side of the cuff is directly under the presser foot. Basically it will look like your cuff is about to swallow your presser foot. This way you will be able to keep the rest of the cuff out of the way while sewing as well as have the feed dogs help ease the extra fabric of the sleeve to the narrower cuff. As Katherine likes to say, “Feed the ease!”
